Following our attendance at the North West Universities Purchasing Consortium sub group meetings last week, the Green Team have been hired to clear two historical buildings in the Aigburth Park complex of Hope University.
The complex includes two of the five John Cragg 'Cast Iron Houses' built around 1830. Carfax, originally called The Nunnery and The Hermitage feature extensive use of cast iron inside and out as Cragg was the owner of the Mersey Iron Foundry and he was exploring the use of cast iron within building structures.
Formally a convent of Notre Dame, the complex is now student accommodation and the two houses have not been in use for some years. As part of the planned refurbishment the University were planning to have the contents cleared and having attended the consortium meeting on Friday 13th, they decided that The Green Team was a more environmentally friendly option than skip hire.
